Liu Yufeng (left), the 12th chief driver of the Mao Zedong Locomotive, and his predecessor Wang Zhenqiang, give the signal to move in Beijing on August 9, 2019. The locomotive, which was made in Harbin in 1946, is named after the late Chinese leader, and has been stationed at Beijing’s Fengtai Station since March 1949. In the last seven decades, it has been remodeled thrice and upgraded from steam power to a more advanced electric one. It began to carry passengers since 2014 and in May 2016, it started to ferry travelers between Beijing and Changsha, capital of Hunan Province.
