The Nanchang Uprising on Aug 1, 1927, marks the first military resistance against Kuomintang counterrevolutionaries who purged CPC members and ended the first CPC-KMT united front. It was the start of the CPC independently establishing an army to seize power by force and lead the Chinese revolution.
