An endearing social media post shows children in an "open-air kitchen", clad in tiny aprons, gathering around portable stoves, and cooking like little chefs.

The entire kid-sized "cooking class" costs just 20 yuan, around $2.5, allowing kids to prepare three dishes using fresh ingredients.

In fact, education in China has long extended beyond traditional classrooms. Videos on social media show preschoolers engaging in "life skills classes", practicing activities such as grocery shopping, cooking, weaving, and woodworking. These experiences help children develop independence and problem-solving skills in real-life contexts.

Some kindergartens even guide children in building miniature houses, from mixing cement to stacking bricks, the whole process is hands-on. Netizens joked, "By the time they're 20, they could list 15 years of work experience on their resumes!"

Many international viewers have noted that the level of public safety in Chinese parks and squares allows children to move freely and participate in such activities even at night, something that would be unthinkable in some other countries.

One foreign blogger (@juliiachinaa 天天兮兮) recalled that when she decided to move to China with her child, many around her doubted or even mocked the choice, believing it was a risk to her child's future. Over time, however, her decision proved well-founded: those who once questioned her either fell silent or later sought her advice.

Her videos, documenting her eight-year-old son shopping alone in a local supermarket, sparked widespread discussion on international social media, with many viewers expressing amazement at the child's independence and the level of safety in Chinese society.

A foreign blogger (@thesmitlocks) has shared his child’s first day of school in China — a day filled with color and smiles. Students crafted “wish jars”, dropping beads that stood for wisdom, safety, freedom, and health. The engaging activities and peaceful campus atmosphere helped the child confidently adapt to the new environment and make new friends.

Many foreign parents emphasized that China's education system and social safety allow them to let their children grow independently, while providing the whole family with a richer and more reassuring life experience.
